Romy gives fans a glimpse into first solo album Mid Air, slated for release on September 8 under the Beggars Group subsidiary, Young.

The album, featuring 11 tracks, will host collaborations with the likes of Fred again.., Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Stuart Price, and Jamie xx, a former band member from The xx.

Loveher – a contemplative journey through love

Romy gives fans a glimpse into first solo album, characterizing it as a contemplative journey through love, dealing with loss, and understanding identity.

She further detailed, “The album draws its musical influence from dance music. And is a homage to the queer clubs I frequented during my adolescence. The people and the music that resonated with me during those times instilled a sense of vibrancy and belonging.”

Before the rhythm takes over

The album’s moniker, Mid Air, is an ode to the transient, ethereal, and huge experiences savored on the dancefloor. “The instances where I could connect with others, before the rhythm takes over, grounding me back into reality,” she stated.

To date, three songs from the upcoming album have been made public. These include Strong, which features Fred again.., and Enjoy Your Life, produced by Jamie xx and contains a vocal excerpt from Beverly Glenn-Copeland.

The most recent track Loveher is a song that Romy regards as the turning point where she felt confident to embark on a solo career.

Loveher is an endeavour to encapsulate the tender, fragile moments from the onset of my relationship,” she elaborated. “It is a recount of navigating through visibility together and individually expressing pride. The lyrics ‘I love her’, seem novel yet truthful, they simply mirror the person I love.”
