A fresh and previously unheard remix by Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper, operating under their alias Director’s Cut, has emerged.

This newly unveiled rendition transforms a disco classic originally by Ultra Naté and Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child. The track in question, ‘Waiting On You’, was originally featured on Ultra Naté’s 2013 album ‘Hero Worship.’ The remix infuses the song with an uplifting house vibe, breathing new life into the familiar tune.

Knuckles – The Godfather Of House Music

Ultra Naté shared insights about it, highlighting the significance of the involvement of her mentor and cultural luminary, Frankie Knuckles. Knuckles and Eric Kupper embarked on a journey of remix and production work  ‘Director’s Cut.

Notably, the remix received the nod for release from Knuckles prior to his passing in 2014, confirmed by Naté.

Lead-up to Frankie Knuckles Day

This release, a decade in the making, coincided with the lead-up to Frankie Knuckles Day, observed on August 25th. This event, celebrated in Chicago, commemorates the legacy of the late producer who played a pioneering role in shaping the soundscape of house music.

Naté expressed the significance of the track ‘Waiting On You’ as a cornerstone of the ‘Hero Worship’ album. And this moment like an opportune time to release it in honour of Frankie Knuckles Day.

Frankie Knuckles played a pivotal role in shaping the evolution of the genre throughout the 1980s, particularly within the Chicago scene. His passing on March 31, 2014, marked the end of an era, as he battled prolonged health issues. He was 59 years old at the time. His influential role in the evolution and propagation of house music, a genre originating in Chicago during the early 1980s before capturing a global audience, remains an enduring testament to his legacy. In a notable accolade, Knuckles secured the Grammy Award for Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical, in 1997.
